Aug 10 – Keele Science & Business Park Tenant Navman Wireless announces iPhone vehicle tracking app

Navman Wireless, the UK’s largest provider of vehicle tracking*, has launched an innovative iPhone app that allows customers to manage their entire vehicle fleet from the palm of their hand.

Based on the company’s powerful OnlineAVL2 desktop tracking software, the app enables users to locate drivers on detailed maps and route them to their next destination.

“To date, many vehicle tracking users have been unable to take full advantage of their systems as they can’t always be at their office computer,” said Tony Neill, Managing Director, Navman Wireless UK.

“This app will give customers total freedom to control their mobile workforce regardless of where they are, and could revolutionise the way some companies manage their fleets as a consequence.”

Comprehensive functionality means the app also features instant messaging so managers can communicate with drivers and provide them with detailed instructions on their next job. In addition, users can retrospectively view vehicle movements to determine where vehicles have been during the day and how long for.

“The rapid advancement and popularity of smartphones has opened the door to many exciting possibilities for the vehicle tracking industry,” added Tony.

“This new development represents a natural evolution for vehicle tracking and is part of our ongoing commitment to investment into new mobile technologies.”

The iPhone-only app is now available to download from Apple’s App Store and customers can contact their account managers for further details.

Jul 10 – Keele Science & Business Park Welcomes Contour Energy Systems

Contour Energy Systems has established a subsidiary at Keele University Science and Business Park, a move which directors say should create a significant number of job opportunities.

The California-based firm was only formed in 2007 but already boasts NASA as one of its clients.

It has developed a range of both non-rechargeable and rechargeable battery systems for sectors ranging from medicine to the military, and is aiming to bring them to market by the last quarter of the year.

Its subsidiary at Keele will act as a distribution hub for the whole of Europe, headed by managing director Simon Lee-Overy.

Mr Lee-Overy said: "For us Keele is a great location and everyone at the business park has been very helpful.

"Keele matched what we were looking for – it's central for travelling to both London and the north and it's close to a number of airports."

Mr Lee-Overy, who has been in the battery business for more than 20 years, including 12 at Energizer, added: "This should be a great employment opportunity for the region. We will need sales, logistics, product management, finance and administration people."
